On the subject of "there ain't no black in the union jack or is there..." :-
judging by some of the "climate-ist"  graffitti on Hadrian's Wall, they may
have pissed off to warmer climes at the end of their tours. They didn't
stick the Antonine Wall for long.

Often wondered about that - the African concerned was an auxiliary not a
legionary, so he might have died "in service", but as Colchester was one of
the colonia for veterans, he might have just been settled there. The other
main damaged tombstone was with a Latin name and a legionary.
