Well, as many know, it is not only 420 (crazy potheads), but it is also the anniversary of the Columbine massacre, the incident at Waco, and Hitler's b-day. The school system knows this. Today I was hit with some of the biggest shockers yet. I knew this year, they would crack down on security, but some of the things happening today shocked me greatly. It was a rainy day in suburbia (west of Chicago) and it was rather chilly. I was soaked and shivering after the 30 second walk from my car to the school. I arrived late and I saw one lad walking away from the school. I didn't know exactly where he was going, but I (in my freezing) realized he had a nice leather trenchcoat. I then discovered second period that no one was being allowed in wearing a trench coat. In the next passing period, I also found out that the bathrooms were locked and would remain so until lunchtime and the libraries (which we can't bring book bags into anyway) was closed until the lunch periods. All the deans were guarding the exits and the (armed) school police officer was guarding the gym entrance. Students with records of delinquency were sent passes and searched. I couldn't help but wonder why this was necessary. What makes today different from any other? Why is it that something that happened a year ago in a different school, in a different state, turns mine into a prison? I guess I just have alot of questions about this issue. Rookie
