And the police didn’t aggress anyone, they just peacefully ended protests. Yeah, right. Here are some headlines I wanna share with you guys: Folha de S. Paulo “Conflicts on the celebration of the 5000 years” Estado de S. Paulo “Over 100 arrested during the party” Official (police) report: 4.000 protesters were deterred from going to Porto Seguro (the place the first Portuguese arrived here) to manifestations. 141 people were arrested, including (mainly) Sem-Terra (members of the most important movement which fights for land reform) and Native-American representatives. Newspaper repor: The main conflict involved around one thousand people from the Black Movement and NGO Brasil Outros 500, punks, Sem-Terra militants and 200 cops. The second biggest conflict had at one side 1000 protesters and on the other na equal number of cops (!). As I see the situation, government repression is the best way to speed up the process of popular political engagement, and if the media helps (avoiding biased comments would be a great advance) we can really change something. Any thought are welcome. Daniel ________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com
