As a pilot, donating blood carries with it the rule that I may not fly for forty-eight hours or until the doctor says I can, which ever is greater. It's probably somewhat safer for an automobile worker because aviation requires a different sort of attention, but generally it's healthier and safer to avoid strenuous labour with a depleted blood supply (probably especially if you have circulatory problems). -Stephen T.
