Subject: The Great Mumpsimus debate - a learned contribution Date: Mon, 5 Jun 2000 11:11:14 +0100 This is a multi-part message in MIME format. Hi folks, Been off sick for a while. On the Mumpsmeister's nomenclature: Mumps - unpleasant illness often resulting in swollen testicles among males and infertility [so that's a good sign - no little mumpslets to come]. -imus - common Latin 1st person plural present tense verb ending - "we are..." [possibly delusions of grandeur - the royal we; possibly an indication that he recognises his viral status "We are mumps"; possibly a pun - we = wee referring to some genito-urinary affliction resulting from Mumps?] Is there a Doctor [of anything useful like medicine, not politics or philsophy] on the list? Andy
