Literally - an empty tomb.

Usually a memorial to the dead buried or lost elsewhere, so cenotaphs as a
genre are  mainly for war victims and drowned at sea persons. In this case
"The Cenotaph" - big war memorial in Whitehall, London where Royalty lay
wreaths on the 11 Nov or thereabouts - and which had graffiti sprayed on it
during the May 1st demonstration.

For history lovers, they're worth looking out for. In Harwich, Essex there's
one to Minesweepers
