Why support the ETA (Basque separatists)? Well, while the idea of replacing
one state with another is not the best option, something needs to be done to
save the Basque language and culture. It is the most unique, and probably
the oldest, tongue in Europe, unrelated to Latin or Greek or Finnish. As a
result theirs is also a unique culture, which like indigenous people around
the world, is being destroyed by the 'dominate' culture (in this case,
Spain). We could, of course, accept the Basque demise in some distorted view
of evolution; Once Wal-Mart and McDonalds are firmly established there they
will be civilized, not hanging on to outmoded forms of language and
uniqueness. Then maybe you'll be happy because now your targets have brand
names and local branches.

"And when one day our human kind becomes full grown, it will not define
itself as the sum total of the whole worlds inhabitants, but as the infinite
unity of their mutual needs."
