Subject: LA on Grrman TV

Tonight German TV station ZDF (state owned) for the first time mentioned
that there are other things going on in LA besides the convention. The
report showed police bashing a retreating protester, the comment given was
"rioters were followed by police acting brutally" - never mind that the
pictures showed something different: a man retreating, with his back to a
cop, and the cop in full gear runs after him and beats him with a baton,
so the man stumbles and then runs, the cop waits a few seconds, and then
beats the man again who this time did not raise again.

The next pictures showed police attacking a retreating line of protesters,
and again it was the protesters getting the blame. They did mention,
strange enough, that the protesters were not a homogenous group and came
from a variety of social groups and several organisations. They then
showed a training camp organized by Ruckus society, with people learning
how to climb chimneys with banners, and the comment changed to more
positive tones. They also interviewed a person from some environment
protection organisation.

Then they switched back to LA and showed a quick sequence from the RATM
concert (without saying what it was), the comment was: some anarchists
provoked the police who did not show any undue hesitation in going at them
- the pictures they showed were police, some of them mounted, attacking
visitors of the concert, one man held a flag with a large circled A.

The report also mentioned that protesters now had their own media to
spread their news. They showed IndyMedia LA, without mentioned their
shutdown, and interviewed one IMC journalist who said that it was
important to get out news reports to counter desinformation spread by
corporate media.
