Protesters: Fringe groups
A variety of groups with social grievances have demonstrated at both
conventions, but the one in L.A. seems to be getting some of the more
outre elements. For example, four self-proclaimed anarchists stood in
Pershing Square about a mile from the Staples Center, their hair dyed
black and cut into bangs similar to those worn by the character Spock on
the television series "Star Trek." Blair Taylor, 24, of Seattle,
explained, "We on Vulcan believe that the only way to organize society
is by anarchism." The name of his organization? "The Revolutionary
Anarchists Spock Bloc."
