There's alot of good criticisms about labels, heck, there is a whole psychology theory that deals with them. But if you are interested in making effective social change and promoting your goals, you have to have words to describe them. Anarchism is not capitalism. It's not liberalism. Anarchy stands for something and it has history and theory to go with it. I think people underestimate how important it is to promote the label. If I say I'm an anarchist to non-anarchists and that I do certain things because I'm an anarchist, then most of the time they will be prompted to ask questions or go off and read more about anarchism. Quite frankly, I've never understood this mental handwringing that goes on for some "anarchists." Yes, in the long run labels aren't that important, but what is it about anarchism that you have such a hang-up about calling yourself an anarchist? From my experience, these people have either been folks who haven't shed their liberalism or guilt about being middle class, or folks who think that if you become an anarchist, you get 35 years in the slammer. I don't have any patience for the latter and I think that they are just being wishy-washy. Chuck0
