American? In what meaningful way??

Born Mainz 1873.
Moved to Paris 1892
Moved to London 1895 where he learnt Yiddish
Deported to Netherlands 1918 and returned to Germany
Left Germany in 1933 for the USA [aged approx 60 yrs] and stayed there 'til
his death.

I reckon this makes his 'American-ness' [presumably he had to become a
citizen??] a fairly irrelevant descriptor.

A pedantic point, I know, but describing an 'anarchist' in national terms is
a bit off. Especially as one of his most active periods was with the
displaced Jewish community in London's  East End. Is this part of the
American tendency to annex all history? [c/f Enigma - the film??]
