The Austrian Anschluss (see 1938) drew protests from Britain and France, but they appeased Herr Schickelgrubber at Munich September 29 by permitting him to take the Sudetenland, a 16,000-square-mile territory that covers nearly a third of Czechoslovakia and contains a third of her inhabitants.
