It was the Marquis of Queensbury who invented the boxing rules, but having done that was forced to confront the hideous truth that the his son Lord Alfred Douglas [aka Bosie]was a practitioner of one of the more limp-wristed versions of the manly arts [with Oscar Wilde in the ring with him], thus setting a trend for British boxers to swoon onto the canvas at the merest sight of the well-muscled American chappies.
