From: "Aditya, the Hindu Skeptic" <a018967t-AT-bc.seflin.org> Subject: Reflections on Columbus day, Dussehra and other Holocausts Date: Tue, 10 Oct 2000 05:30:47 -0400 This year Columbus day in USA is celebrated within a few days of Dussehra festival in India. While there is a realization rapidly gaining ground in USA that in spite of the subsequent prosperity enjoyed by Europeans who followed his path, the consequences of his journey were most tyrannical and inhumane for the native population of the day in this continent. There are several movements to stop celebrating Columbus day as a holiday and consider it as a sad day for the humanity and pledge that no human being suffer the way native Americans have. However this realization is not as rapid and universal as the condemnation of Jews by HItler even in his homeland because the descendants of the American victims are disorganized, voiceless and disheartened. Sadly enough the tyranny against a noble and erudite King Ravan of Lanka has suffered even worse fate. The descendants of the victorious but cruel invading king Ram has not only become an yearly celebration but the vanquished king has become a symbol of all the ills in the world and he is made to suffer this ignominy year after year with no end in sight. The same Indians who blame Western invaders and Mir Qasims for their long slavery do not even give a second thought to what Vibhishan did to that noble king in his own land. Have a peaceful and joyous day.
