Miguel de Unamuno was a philosopher that lived most of his life in
Spain. [In a confrontation with fascist General Milan-Astray at the
University of Salamanca on October 12, 1936, he proclaimed] 'At times
to be silent is to lie. You will win because you have enough brute
force. But you will not convince. For to convince you need to persuade.
And in order to persuade you would need what you lack: Reason and
    Right'."

Milan-Astray shouted in reply, 'Death to intelligence! And long live
Death!' whereupon he drove the elderly Unamuno out of the university at
    gunpoint."

In "The Anatomy of Human Destructiveness" social-psychologist Erich Fromm
presented a theory of biophillic life-affirming and Necrophillic death-
obsessed personalities.

The metaphorical Necrophillic aspects of fascism can be easily noted in the
black uniforms of the SS and their deaths-head insignia. But referring to
a "necrophillic personality" after Auschwitz is like referring to
"moisture" after a tidal wave. Between the necrophillic deaths-head as
metaphor and the unmediated necrophillia of the death camps lies
necrophillia as ideology and nowhere is this seen more than through Milan-
Astray's slogan. Evidence for this rests not with the fact that one fascist
general uttered the words but rather that the words have been adopted as a
slogan by some many other fascist groups.

The slogan is most often found within that fascist tendency known under
various names like "The International Third Position" (so-called because it
claims to support neither capitalism nor communism), "National Bolsheviks,"
"National Anarchists," "Strasserites," and even "Libertarian Socialists."

But the necrophillic cry "Long Live Death!" is common to them all.

It is found even among the cultural ostensible heroes of the ideology, like
Boyd Rice.[1] The slogan is presented at their "clubs" on the net,[2]
related foundations[3], journals like "The Final Conflict,"[4], and
specialized discussion lists.[5]

"Liberals, reactionaries and other full time losers have often scoffed at
the N[ational] R[evolutionary] 'greeting' Long Live Death!," writes "Final
Conflict."[4] The journal goes on to proclaim "Let the liberals and morons
take note! 'Long Live Death!' is not the advocacy of genocide. It is the
fraternal salute, the greeting which acknowledges that Revolutionary
Nationalists are prepared to sacrifice all in service of their noble cause,
unlike the career politicians and corrupt bureaucrats of the political
parties whose only interest is flattery and finance. It has been cried over
battlefields, pronounced in jails and daubed on walls throughout Europe.
Long may it continue to do so!"

This rationalization for the slogan is clearly at odds with Milan-Astray's
argument against Unamuno's biophillic appeal to "Reason and Right."

Fromm's neo-Freudians was largely based on his notion that the unconscious
material first described by Sigmund Freud was metaphorical rather than
literal.

The net, however, creates or permits situations where very raw material
from the unconscious can be presented to the world. Non-clinical
psychoanalytic research from the net lets us look at this and, in this
case, see that the necrophillic propensities of the fascist movement are
far from metaphorical.

Let us use the fascist group "Black Vanguard" and its web site as an
example.6]

We are greeted with a photo ostensibly of Elizabeth Bathory[7]. According
to Black Vanguard's sources she was "was alleged to have raped, tortured
and killed over 650 young girls, and then bathed in their blood to preserve
her famed beauty. Her reign of terror lasted thirty years until she was
eventually brought to book and walled up in a room in her own castle, where
she remained until her death in 1613. Cool!"[8]

Black Vanguard also directs us to additional information on Bathory,
informing us that "Elizabeth's sadistic nature had long been known in the
castle. One of her favorite punishments was to have servants dragged
outside during severely cold weather and pour cold water over them until
they froze to death. It was during one of these fits of temper that
Elizabeth first became convinced that blood had the power to improve health
and stave off aging. Beating a maid who attempted to fix something wrong
with Elizabeth's attire, the Countess became so enraged that she beat the
girl until blood flowed and splashed onto Elizabeth. Wiping it away, she
noticed that the skin beneath the blood was younger and more vibrant. This
is where her fascination with the power of blood begins.

"It is said that Elizabeth's victims were all from peasant stock, however,
some historians also say that she also preyed on high born women. She
conducted her ritual murders until 4 corpses were discovered near her
castle. Soon official investigations began. It is generally believed that
authorities could no longer 'cover up' her crimes because now members of
the royal family were missing."[9]

Bathory was not merely a necrophillia but engaged in lust murder according
to other Black Vanguard sources. "The murders were not as simple nor as
straightforward as you might think. Bathory did not deal in simplicities
like slitting the throats of the young girls she killed. Most of these
servant girls were tortured by Bathory for weeks or even months before they
were killed. They were cut with scissors, pricked with pins, even prodded
with burning irons onto sharp spikes in a cage hung from the ceiling to
provide Bathory with a 'blood shower'."[10]

Furthermore, "Equipped with her husband's heinous silver claws, she
generously indulged herself, whiling away many lonely hours at the expense
of forlorn Slav debtors from her own dungeons. The more shrill their
screams and the more copious the blood, the more exquisite and orgasmic her
amusement. She preferred to whip her 'subjects' on the front of their nude
bodies rather than their backs, not only for the increased damage
potential, but so that she could gleefully watch their faces contort in
horror at their most grim and burning fate" according to a source otherwise
cited by Black Vanguard."[11]

The fascists in Black Vanguard also reveal that "Long Live Death" is far
different a slogan than others in the tendency claim. As Black vanguard
simply states "There is no compelling reason not to destroy Society."[6]
The web site provides links to advice for readers in this area from simple
suicide[12] to the issue of making atomic devices.[13]

We are not sure if the instructions on atomic weapons are made to be taken
seriously -- as paranoid grandiosity -- or simply as necrophillic fantasy.

But between Bathory's necro-sadism and the instruments of mass murder, we
see how accurate the notion of a strong necrophillic propensity is in
modern fascist ideology.
