yeah, closed lists have their uses i suppose but jeeze who's kiddin' who (or whom i guess) here?  overthrowing capitalism is a pretty damn big job so i guess somebody has to organize it, but you know the list has gotta be hacked by anybody who really wants to know what goes on.  so keeping out the riff-raff (among whose numbers i proudly count myself) seems to be the only real purpose for a closed list.  any movement that can't handle hecklers is lacking both a sense of humor (not to mention irony) and any chance of success.
