Day 29 of Hunger Strike: Jamie taken to the hospital

I just got a call from the folks who have accompanied Homes Not Jails activist,
Jamie Loughner, to D.C. General hospital. Apparently she passed out on a couch
around 2:30 this afternoon after she had gone to City Council member Jim
Graham's office to get away from the stifling heat. The temperature in
Washington, DC today is in the 90s and the government has issued an Ozone Alert.

She is doing OK at the hospital. They have given her an IV, but she still hasn't
eaten anything. She says that as soon as they let her, she is going to go back
down to the Mayor's office to resume her vigil.

Apparently Jim Graham asked her if she would take an ambulance to the hospital.
She said she would only on the condition that he go to Congress to lobby against
the hospital privatization. My source tells me that they reached an agreement.

I'm waiting to get more information and will relay it as it becomes available.

INTERNATIONALISM IN PRACTICE

An American soldier in a hospital explained how he was wounded: He said, "I was
told that the way to tell a hostile Vietnamese from a friendly Vietnamese was to
shout ‘To hell with Ho Chi Minh!’ If he shoots, he’s unfriendly. So I saw this
dude and yelled ‘To hell with Ho Chi Minh!’ and he yelled back, ‘To hell with
President Johnson!’ We were shaking hands when a truck hit us."
