ANNOUNCEMENTS FROM MEDEA BENJAMIN AND WES BOYD:

Messages about TODAY'S ( June 21st) "Roll Your Own Blackout" have been
inundating email boxes all over!! The "roll you own black out" is
being called in response to the current fabricated energy crisis that
gouges Californian consumers, and as a protest against the energy
policies laid out by the energy corporations and their political allies,
which lack the needed emphasis on efficiency, conservation, renewable
energy and public power. All over the world, people will be
participating in a voluntary "rolling blackout" on the first day of
Summer, June 21, from 7 pm - 10 pm (in all time zones - to create a
blackout that rolls across the planet). The protest is a simple and
symbolic act.

Don't use any power from the utility grid. We'll create our own
blackout. On the evening of June 21st, you're asked to turn out your
lights and unplug everything in your home that you can.

As we celebrate the Summer Solstice, and acknowledge the power of the
sun, we will demand a shift of resources into solar energy. This
"rolling blackout" protest is to let politicians, the media and the
world at large know that people want to participate in conservation
efforts, support alternative energy sources and demand public control of
the power system. The rolling blackout is a protest against
anti-environmental policies and a way for the Earth's citizenry to
reclaim its own power. Come join us and show the power of the people.

If you live near San Francisco:

Join Global Exchange's Power to the People Campaign as we roll our own
black-out, celebrate the Summer Solstice, and have a great party for the
power of the people.

Come join us at the beach! We will light candles, have a bonfire, sing,
play music, and dance. To make it easy, this is a BYOB & share party.
Bring food, drink and music. Bring extra firewood if you have it.
We'll have fun in the dark and admire the stars (once darkness finally
comes, on this longest day of the year)! As we celebrate the Summer
Solstice, and acknowledge the power of the sun, we will demand a shift
of resources into solar energy

If you live near Palo Alto:

Bay Area Action & The Peninsula Conservation Center Foundation are
organizing a big party at Palo Alto City Hall Plaza, and we want you to
join us.

It's time to tell the Bush administration that we can meet our energy
needs without dirty coal-fired power plants, dangerous nuclear energy,
and drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge,

Join us at the Roll Your Own Blackout Party on June 21 in downtown Palo
Alto, and please forward this invitation to family, friends and
