From: Michael Lewis <mlewis-AT-unm.edu> The current administration of the United States government professes to be a Christian administration, holding prayer meetings in the White House, promoting "faith-based" social support systems, vying with TeeVee evangelists for the hearts, minds, and pocketbooks of the American people. Let's ask our leaders a simple question in reference to the terror and destruction of September 11: What would Jesus do? If Jesus were in the White House today, what would He do? Would He relentlessly hunt down the organizers and perpetrators of this evil deed and put them to the sword? Would He bomb their cities back to the Stone Age and subject innocent children, parents and grandparents to continuing torture, disease and death by destroying their water supplies, medical clinics and social infrastructure? If Jesus were in the White House today, would He support a country that attacks innocent women and children, destroys their homes and drags off their men to torture and death? Would He order thousands of men to be buried alive under desert sands? Would He encourage an economic system that promotes hunger and privation for thousands while the few bask in luxury and unearned privilege? If Jesus is the model held up as an example by our Founding Fathers, supported by words and overt actions by our own leaders today, shouldn't we expect our leaders to live up to this example as well? What would Jesus do? Michael
