but i am a little disappointed. it's already becoming evident that a couple weeks after this, most everybody has resumed saying exactly what they said before it happened. didn't take long to come up with a plausible cover story to cast the blame or ease the guilt or whatever.

frankly, this calls for a lot more creativity. i watched 6500 people die. anybody else have that happen to them before last week? sure, INTELLECTUALLY, i know of worse disasters and crimes (far worse), but we all WATCHED (sorry for shouting) this one. makes a difference in oh so many ways.

i've seen the international system get jerked around but good. i've seen the fragility of the sense of safety and stability that many of the privilged (like most of us) have taken for granted. like many, i've worried desperately about people i love. this was personal.

like carp said, it's hard to know what to think and feel (or avoid feeling at the moment). but let's be honest and not overreach. for those angry at anyone behind this, i repeat what i said before: cool your jets. figthing evil doesn't make you good, so resist the urge to bomb somebody. to the left who almost desperately want to blame the western states directly for this i would urge caution. it's possible to resist stupid policy right now without using dumb tactics. bush has the highest popularity of any prez in history right now and it would be foolish to be seen attacking or even being rude to the new heroes of the day, the uniformed cops and such. this is bad news for those populations preyed on by the police. it's going to be carte blanch for cops for a good while. people sure love cops and firefighters at the moment.

anyway, this is a puzzler and i suspect we should all do as martha did in the bible (southern baptist version): "And she kept these things in her heart and pondered them."

still hurting,
roger
