If it weren't for the warlords, that might not be a Bad Thing. Yesterday's Chicago Tribune had a very good article on how the brits made countries where no countries were before by just drawing lines on a colonial map. The Pashtuns were the subject. One of the guys interviewed said once there was a Pashtun state (country, maybe, or tribal homeland) and it was cut in half by the line. That's the kind of stuff I teach my wirld geography students, except I've always shown tribal homeland maps of africa and overlaid the current "national" boundary maps onto the original.
