Thanksgiving's real meaning is that when the colonists fired the English Nobleman sent to run their lives for them, they suddenly stopped starving to death. The colonists at Roanoke had an even better solution...the second their Crown appointed supervisor took a junket back to England, they defected to the local tribes en-mass. And they probably had a significant lifespan and quality of life increase as a result. The women were definitely treated better by the local tribes. No witchburnings, and some tribes were actually matriarchal. Women defecting to the natives was a major headache for male colonists... there were many stories of women who would run back to their tribe after being "rescued". Heh. Regards, Kristopher K.
