I'm assuming most of us have read the book 1984 by
"George Orwell." In it, the character Emmanuel
Goldstein is the "bad guy" that the Party uses to
scare the general populace of Airstrip One into good
behaviour. All bad deeds, all evil acts, are
attributed to Goldstein, just as all goodness,
intelligence, and bravery is attributed to Big
Brother. Here is my question: was Emmanuel Goldstein
named after Emma Goldman? I don't know much about Emma
but the names are very close, and I haven't found info
about this anywhere.
Thanks in advance to anyone who replies.
