Date: Mon, 7 Oct 2002 20:52:53 -0700 (PDT) From: Maldoror <insektus-AT-yahoo.com> Subject: hunting in western new york > >My attitude towards such "hunts" is that > >I am in favour of direct action to prevent > >them from riding roughshod over everybody > >who lives in the countryside, but I think > >any anarchist who supports a legal > >ban on hunting as such has got themselves > >into a quite contradictory position. i grew up just south of buffalo ny where my parents have a bunch of wooded land. every winter there'd be these ppl from buffalo who'd come down with their fancy SUV's and cases of beer who would then proceed to try and run all over my parents' land and that of the neighbors'. there'd be like 20 of them drunk and screaming through the woods scaring the deer which they'd then shoot and wound and being drunk would be unable to find while the deer bled to death only to rot. every yr my dad would find a couple of rotting deer from the 'hunters.' then in grand island near niagara falls they use to have this bait and shoot program where they'd set up food trays to lure the deer in and then state officials would open fire on the unsuspecting deer. they claimed this was to protect the over-population of deer. i'm for hunting so long as the meat is going to be used but to call it a sport 'to say look what i killed' seems to me a bit narrow, as happened in the small town where my parents live. every year there's this contest to see who gets the biggest deer as though killing something should be a source of pride. the winner gets like $500 and they mount the deer heads in the local grocery store. highly sanitary indeed. my 2 cents for whatever its worth here which is probably not very much at this point. gr3g ==== 'every government is a dictatorship. every leader, a tyrant.' -anonymous __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!?
