i grew up just south of buffalo ny where my parents
have a bunch of wooded land. every winter there'd be
these ppl from buffalo who'd come down with their
fancy SUV's and cases of beer who would then proceed
to try and run all over my parents' land and that of
the neighbors'. there'd be like 20 of them drunk and
screaming through the woods scaring the deer which
they'd then shoot and wound and being drunk would be
unable to find while the deer bled to death only to
rot. every yr my dad would find a couple of rotting
deer from the 'hunters.'

then in grand island near niagara falls they use to
have this bait and shoot program where they'd set up
food trays to lure the deer in and then state
officials would open fire on the unsuspecting deer.
they claimed this was to protect the over-population
of deer.

i'm for hunting so long as the meat is going to be
used but to call it a sport 'to say look what i
killed' seems to me a bit narrow, as happened in the
small town where my parents live. every year there's
this contest to see who gets the biggest deer as
though killing something should be a source of pride.
the winner gets like $500 and they mount the deer
heads in the local grocery store. highly sanitary
indeed.

my 2 cents for whatever its worth here which is
probably not very much at this point.
