you're correct about the date (stupid error), and the
name tecnically. although, it is more commonly
referred to as simply as "maldoror" in academic
circles, hence my statement.

not only was he respected by the surrealists, many
critics and academicians consider him to be the father
of the french surrealist movement given his influence
on writers like baudelaire and rimbaud. 

he also wrote 'poesies,' which apart from some random
notes and scribblings, was all he wrote (aside from
les chants de maldoror) according to what various
critics have said. 

neo-folk industrialists current 93 reference maldoror
in various songs as do post-industrialists coil, who
have some live recordings at bar maldoror, which is
said to exist in the aether.
