Dropping out of society is an illusion. Those who operate under the delusion that it is possible to drop out of society are often rudely disabused of their illusion when it turns out that, no matter how much they ignore it, society still affects their lives. As for Hakim Bey, he is a fraud and a charlatan. Maldoror wrote > i believe it is Hakim Bey to whom you refer. > he also has an essay entitled 'ontological anarchy' Since I hadn't a clue what this pompous-sounding verbiage was about, I had to look it up in a dictionary. " ONTOLOGY : The branch of metaphysics concerned with the nature of being.." Although I have of course heard of "metaphysics", it next occurred to me that (probably like the vast majority of folk) I couldn't actually say exactly what it was. So I looked _that_ up as well. "METAPHYSICS : The branch of philosophy concerned with the first principles of things, including abstract concepts such as being and knowing." It therefore follows that what Hakim Bey wrote about was "Applying to anarchy the principles of that branch (concerned with the nature of being) of that branch of philosophy concerned with abstract concepts such as being and knowledge". Which sounds to me like a load of pretentious codswallop signifying absolutely sweet fuck all. Like I said, the guy is a fraud and a charlatan. Dave Coull
