I believe you were talking about the Moorish Science
Temple which is a african-american nationalist
movement started in the 1920's by a Nobel Drew Ali. he
sought to raise the self-esteem of african-americans
by giving them a lost identity i.e. Morrocan or
Moorish. The term as used by this movement is not
offensive and they do have some ties with the King of
Morroco. The Nation of Islam was founded former
members of the MST in the 1930's. During the 1960's a
bohemian oriented breakoff occurred calling themselves
the Moorish Orthodox Church (of Hakim Bey fame) and
whose islamic-anarchistic manifesto is readily
available of the NET.
