Thank you Sir, for those kind words. My ignoring years begun with me ignoring certain decrees regarding fees and inspections of a motorcycle which ran perfectly well without such nonsense. Then it sort of rolled on. They developed a habit of pounding at the door, and me of ignoring them. There were a few interesting incidents -- apart from the normal pounding -- during this time which could be worth a note in the memoirs, but the best moment was however one fine winter morning they when changed tactics. Four constables in two cars came for a visit, and I was just about to work myself up to ignoring them as usual, when I heard a strange noice at the door. They were picking the lock. I quickly decided to, temporarily, divert from my tactic too, to confuse them, and indeed this decision was not without some success... One constable ran off to hide round the corner of the house, one fell over on his arse, sprawling in the snow with a letter in his hand he kept waving for no clear reason. I think he said something, but I was so busy anti-ignoring I didn't hear what. The remaining two plodded at great haste backwards in the snow towards the wood shed, where one of them fell and got stuck with his head in a snow drift, until the other pulled him out. It was one of those memorable moments you wished you had a camera. They never actually mentioned what their business was, but the man with the letter dropped it, demonstratively, by the stairs, where of course I immediately begun ignoring it intensively for months to come, except when stepping out for a leak. (Eventually, it rotted away) They left without further explanation of this odd behaviour, and I went back to my usual ignoring, busy as ever. A week or so later, a friend of mine informed me about a note he had seen in the paper, about a trial that had been held without the prescence of the defendant. But the court had ignored the prosecutor du to the prescription date having passed, by six months. They have ignored me ever since. How rude of them.
