I think Chomsky talked about the post-Hiroshima manipulation of public opinion in his recent book, "Understanding Power." I can't find my copy, but I was really fascinated to read about how the U.S. deliberately censored journalism and scientific reports about the bombing in order to prevent Americans from questioning the U.S. actions.
