There have been a flurry of articles about evidence that the Artic is 
warming. Scientists are concerned that if the Arctic ocean starts becoming 
ice free that it will have a big impact on the Gulf Stream.

As Dave pointed out, scientists have for several decades pointed out that 
changes in the Gulf Stream could also trigger an early arrival of the next 
Ice Age, with drastic changes happening over decades instead of centuries.
