It's quite simple really, Roger.

If somebody writes about "the direct action movement",
or "the anti-war movement", or about "class struggle 
anarchism", or even "the Gulf Stream", then, if I want 
to comment on what they have to say, I will probably 
leave the subject heading as it was.

But if somebody sends a message which is devoid
of any political point, or even any scientific point,
and whose only point is really just the purely personal 
one of "having a go at Dave Coull", then I am unlikely 
to keep the subject heading they chose. And since 
their subject has no political content, in replying,
the simplest thing to do is just to put "reply
to so-and-so".

YOU  were the one who first upped the ante on this,
Roger, by saying that you were going to write to 
my local newspaper about me. My response to you 
saying that was that, if you wanted to write to 
my local paper, that was up to you, but I thought 
it only fair you should give me  YOUR  location, 
so that I could argue with you through  YOUR  
local paper.
