true, i can' judge the guy; i wasn't there.  he may have thought the
iraqi was a threat for all i know.  it hardly matters.  the damage has
been done.  with the abu gharib pix at the beginning of the year and
this at the end, 2004 smells a lot like waterloo to me.

but i'm not sure i agree with your larger point.  while there's plenty
of cupablity to go around for this particular mess, surely we all have
to take responsibility for our actions.  while it's one thing to die
for one's family, nation, religion, etc, it's quite another thing to
kill in the name of these abstractions.  i think that we have to each
take some personal responsibility for at least the act of killing.
