I am posting a short piece about the Italian social centres that I wrote
for a student newspaper, since closed by government legislation disallowing
student union funding for "politcal" purposes. In addition, last year's
editors face hefty fines or even prison sentences for having published an
article on how to shoplift (I have posted the article and background info a
month or so ago). I should say that my current research is about the place
of music within the social centres, so if any comrades want to supply their
thoughts, I'd be most appreciative. And Franco, you mention that there were
arguments at the March Bologna meeting of autonomist circles: could you
tell us more?

Thanks, Jerry and Franco, for those examples you posted. Was the NY case
also documented in the last _Midnight Notes? - I have lent my copy to
someone. And Bryan, I second Harry's request for more info about your
research.

Re Hakim Bey: half a dozen of us were discussing his article "Permanent
TAZ" only yesterday in a Melbourne cafe, as part of our regular fortnightly
discussion group. Since all those who took part are on this list, I'll
leave it to one of them to say something about it all . . . (go on, yous!).

Re my thesis: I will soon post a slightly edited version of the chapter on
Negri and the notion of operaio sociale to the archive (it's appearing in
the next issue of _Reconstruction_). I am about to approach some publishers
about the manuscript itself - any tips and/or endorsements gratefully
received! I would have distributed it sooner in disk form, but for a long
time was stymied by my inability to resuscitate the Apple ][ disks it was
stored on. Then a friend in London scanned it, but I still haven't got far
cleaning up the inevitable 5% or so mis-scanned words (sorry Patrick!). But
I will attempt to get the chapter on Alquati's work on FIAT into the
archive ASAP.

Steve
