Soon five million unemployed 

GERMANY -  Klaus Zwickel, president of the German metalworkers 
union IG Metall, has warned that unemployment could reach five 
million if the government continues its austerity policy.  
Dieter Schulte, head of the German Trade Union Federation (DGB) 
has announced that if the labour market does not improve in 
1997, unions will no longer agree to pay freezes.
