Date: Mon, 17 Mar 1997 17:58:38 +0100 Subject: petition APPEAL FOR THE SUPPRESSION OF SHORT-STAY VISAS FOR ADMISSION TO THE EUROPEAN UNION Short-stay visas are contrary to the principle of the free movement of people, as recognised in international legal texts, declarations and conventions. They are an obstacle to exercising the right of asylum. They depend on the discretionary power of the issuing administration, and are therefore arbitrary in nature. The evolution of European law must culminate in their suppression. The French Human Rights League, together with several African Human Rights Leagues (in particular from Mali, Morocco, Mauritius and Tunisia), join forces with the Belgian Human Rights League and call on other European Leagues within the framework of the International Federation of Human Rights Leagues, and on other associations, political parties and individual citizens to support this appeal. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ For the suppression of short-stay visas for admission to the European Union YES, I sign this appeal : - in my own name * - in the name of my association, group, party, organisation...* (if necessary, delete what does not apply) NAME and first name : Name of organisation : in my capacity as : Full address (street, postcode, town/city, country) Telephone and Fax: send to: Operation Supression des Visas, LDH, 27 r Jean Dolent 75014 Paris, France, ou par fax : (33) 01 45 35 23 20 or Ligue des droits de l'homme 27 r Jean Dolent 75014 Paris tel : 01 44 08 87 29 / fax : 01 45 35 23 20 or Belgium : http://www.arkham.be/ligue ------------------------------------- Diffusion: Collettivo Infodiret(t)e-ECN Padova http://www.ecn.org/pad/ --- from list aut-op-sy-AT-lists.village.virginia.edu ---
