Subject: Chiapas

Now that the Ab Irato text on Chiapas has been available to this list for
many months, I ask again why there has been no response to or discussion
of it (H. Cleaver in particular had promised a critique). I know that the
authors, with criticisms of it themselves, are planning to revise it for
republication, so critique would be welcome to them. I think its chief
limitations lie in its one-sidedness with respect to the understanding of
what's going on in Mexico; it's main virtue is the critique of "Western"
leftists' enthusiasm about the Zapatistas--which seems to continue
unabated.
