So where is this in his work and is it in English ? I have a reference for the 'absence of memory': On 1982 at the university of Calabria we organised a meeting with Kapitalistate. Negri sent a paper from Rebibbia (the prison) which, he wrote, was the output of a collective discussion with cammerades in prison. It has been published into a book (made of some of the papers of the meeting) I edited (this is why I remember). I do not remember if he used this notion before (but surely after, somewhere) and I do not know if he published the same paper somewhere else. About the meening. The context in which he putted it: He is talking about State, politics, and the revolutionary subject (soggetto: subjectivity). Just before he was saing that the so called socialists societies (the east area) are "not developed (arretrate) capitalists societies" and that the old model of revolution can't work anymore. Now I try to translate the piece into question (but mind that I'am not sure of the result: I just put it as nearer as possible to the italian) Negri wrote: "The subjests of revolutionary struggles (lotte) have radicaly changed: the contents of the liberation's struggles --- (mine: the ones already given) ---had reabsorbed and transformend the contents of emancipation's struggles. Liberation is liberation from labour not emancipation of labour. =46rom this point of view the new generations engaged into the revolutionary process are *memory free* (in english). But this doesn't mean that the revolutionary process is without principles - on the contrary (anzi), it transform itself into (dentro) the radical refusal of the existing social organisation, into the radical refusal of this and inside (dentro) the experience of comunity struggles (lotte di comunit=E0) and the social struggle (lotta sociale), with a radicalism rearly percieved (con un radicalismo raramente percepito). Principles era born into the development of the struggle, and omong them we have to identify expecially the project of changing (incidere sulla) the quality of life, ie that of fighting against to and destroy every efford of subdueing (subjogating = assoggettare) life to death."
