KUWAIT, May 10 (Reuter) - Kuwait Airways Corp KA.CN pilots and engineers
started a one-day >>strike<< on Tuesday, halting all operations by the
national carrier.

The >>strike<< started at 0700 a.m. (0400 GMT) Tuesday, a Kuwait Airways
official said.

Kuwait Aircraft Engineers and Pilots Association agreed late on Monday to
bring Kuwait Airways to a complete halt every Tuesday starting this week.
Their >>strike<< plans also include delaying all outbound flights by one
hour during the week.

``The industrial action will affect Kuwait Airways only,'' the association
said in a statement issued on Tuesday.

It said the >>strike<< was due to the ``failure of negotiations and
prolonged deliberations by government committees which have lasted for more
than a year without reaching an acceptable settlement.''

It is demanding ``adjustment of salaries, allowances and restoration of
certain benefits.''

The association in November agreed to postpone a flight delay >>strike<<
after talks with the country's crown prince and prime minister, Sheikh Saad
