Berlin airport employees hold warning >>strike<< over planned consolidation BERLIN (AP) -- >>Workers<< at Berlin's three airports stopped work for three hours Thursday to demand job security for 2,000 employees when the airports are consolidated. The Public Service, Transport and Traffic Union is concerned that jobs will be cut when Schoenefeld Airport, gateway to the former East Berlin, becomes the city's main international airport after the turn of the century. About 50 flights were delayed by the three-hour >>strike<<, from 5-8 a.m. Tegel Airport, in northern Berlin, currently handles most commercial traffic. Schoenefeld and Templehof are primarily used for charter flights. ------------------------------------------------------------ NewsHound is a service of Knight-Ridder, Inc.
