Subject: Re: Arrests in Amsterdam

Steve: I've been following this story on cs-list, but given that your
Italian is so much better than mine, you should update this story as it
unfolds. It seems we are discovering an escalation of European state
repression in response to the escalation of working class protest. Against
the coming together of protesters from all over Europe, the police are
willing to violate the basic freedom of movement within the EU. Maastricht
guarantees free movement, but only it seems, if you are moving to work for
capital. Italians are free to take jobs in Spain, or Holland, but not to
join with other Europeans in massive protests against capitalist policies.
It will be interesting to see what imagination our friends in Europe will
bring to counterstrategies for this new situation.
