MEXICAN LABOR NEWS AND ANALYSIS
August 16, 1997
-----------------------------------------------------------------
About Mexican Labor News and Analysis
Mexican Labor News and Analysis is produced in collaboration
with the Authentic Labor Front (Frente Autentico del Trabajo -
FAT) of Mexico and with the United Electrical Workers (UE) of the
United States and is published the 2nd and 16th of every month.
MLNA can be viewed at the UE's international web site:
HTTP://www.igc.apc.org/unitedelect/. For information about direct
subscription, submission of articles, and all queries contact
editor Dan La Botz at the following e-mail address:
103144.2651-AT-compuserve.com.
MLNA articles may be reprinted by other electronic or print
media, but we ask that you credit Mexican Labor News and Analysis
and give the UE home page location and Dan La Botz's compuserve
address.
The UE Home Page which displays Mexican Labor News and
Analysis has an INDEX of back issues and an URGENT ACTION ALERT
section.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Dear Reader,

Mexican Labor News and Analysis will take a brief break and
resume publication on September 16, 1997. We apologize for this
short interruption in our service. When we come back on-line, we
will have some new correspondents in Mexico, bringing you more
complete coverage of news about Mexican workers and labor unions.

Because we want to continue and improve Mexican Labor News
and Analysis, we're appealing to you for support, both moral and
financial.

This newsletter started and will continue largely as a
volunteer effort, but because our editor has returned to live in
the United States, we find that we now need a modest budget for a
part-time position, phone calls, travel, and the purchase of
newspaper and magazine subscriptions and clipping services.

SEND US A LETTER OF SUPPORT

If you have found Mexican Labor News and Analysis to be
useful to you and your organization, please e-mail us a letter of
support. Your letter of support can help us get foundation
funding. A brief note will suffice. Tell us why you read and
appreciate MLNA. Be sure to identify yourself and your
organization. Send your letter of support to:
103144.2651-AT-compuserve.com

               SEND US A FINANCIAL CONTRIBUTION

If you or your organization would also like to make a
direct, tax deductible contribution to Mexican Labor News and
Analysis, make your check payable to UE Research and Education
Fund (indicating that your contribution is to help support
Mexican Labor News and Analysis) and send it to:

          Director of International Labor Affairs

          Pittsburgh, PA 15222-1416

If you have questions, please e-mail Robin Alexander at
ueintl-AT-igc.apc.org, call her at (412) 471-8919, or fax her at
(412) 471-8999.

With the death of Fidel Velazquez, who headed the
Confederation of Mexican Workers (CTM) for nearly fifty years,
and the election of Cuauhtemoc Cardenas of the Party of the
Democratic Revolution (PRD) as mayor of Mexico City, as well as
the appearance of the new Foro group of unions, the next few
years should be extremely important and interesting for Mexican
workers and unions. This will also be an important time for
solidarity among Canadian, Mexican and U.S. workers and unions.

We think Mexican Labor News and Analysis makes a unique
contribution by providing you with regular information about
Mexican workers and unions, as well as on-going analysis of labor
unions and politics in Mexico. We hope you think so too. We
appreciate your support.

     In solidarity,
     Dan La Botz, Editor
