UPS trucks vandalized at distribution center BALDWIN PARK, Calif. (AP) -- More than a dozen trucks parked at a United Parcel Service distribution center were vandalized in two separate incidents, police said. In the first incident, tires were slashed and brake lines cut on 11 trucks parked at the center, which is surrounded by an 8-foot high chain link fence topped by barbed wire, said Sgt. Don French. The commercial trucks, which appear to be the type used for deliveries, were parked next to the fence, French said. A UPS security manager reported the first incident of vandalism about 2:20 a.m. Tuesday. No one, including strikers usually stationed at the center 24 hours daily since the >>strike<< began at the center, saw anything suspicious, French said. A second incident of vehicles vandalized at the center was reported Tuesday afternoon, but details were not available immediately. Meanwhile, the walkout resulted in other incidents nationwide as the UPS >>strike<< continued into the second week without any indication of whether negotiators would return to the bargaining table. In Nashville, a UPS manager was killed Monday in a highway accident. Miami police arrested four suspects, including two >>striking<< >>workers<<, in the stabbing of a driver who crossed the picket line. And judges in two cities put limits on pickets after complaints of intimidation. ------------------------------------------------------------ NewsHound is a service of Knight-Ridder, Inc.
