Subject: File 4--The Internet as scab

An interesting article appeared in the October 28
Boston Globe about
striking teachers in the province of Ottawa. The
strike is over
typical work rules ("class size, length of the
school day, and number
of hours of teaching time"). But one paragraph in
particular caught my
eye:

        If the strike continues, provincial
authorities said,
        they will urge parents to educate their
children at home
        using assignments and learning aids
provided on the
        Internet.
