From: "Rebecca Peoples" <wellsfargo-AT-tinet.ie> Subject: AUT: Spontaneous upsurge..... Date: Sun, 31 May 1998 09:47:49 +0100 Hi Folks, My view of many of the participants on this list is that they are out of touch with reality if they are serious about revolution. They seem to think that whenever there is a spontaneous burst of anger by the masses in the form of street demonstrations or violent rebellion that this is a sign that progress is taking place. To sow such illusion is treacherous at the least. The point is that there will always be outbursts of this kind so long as capitalism exists. However for to stand any chance of successfully establishing a social revolution it is necessary that the masses organize themselves on a revolutionary basis. Otherwise they will get nowhere. Organising from above in left counter-revolutionary Leninist fashion is not the answer either. However ultimately the organising of struggle and development of class consciousness must entail centralisation --but it must be kept to a bare minimum and thoroughly democratic. Warm regards Rebecca --- from list aut-op-sy-AT-lists.village.virginia.edu ---
