Doug, your argument seems to me to be a re-working of the familiar "If
you fight them it'll only provoke them, therefore you are helping the
cause of repression" argument that the likes of the CP always used to
use against the active left. Perhaps I'm maligning you, but that is the
framework of your argument. As for your second point, I don't think
anybody thinks that a simple barrage of government websites is going to
bring the system down. On the other hand it gave me a way of doing
something, however symbolic, while stuck in my weekly cubicle wage-slave
cell and at the firm's expense. It's easy to forget how important even
symbolic actions are for those of us burnt out by years of overactivity
and weighed down by work at the shit end of info-capitalism. Also, my
experience of using phone barrages for emergency prison support (in ABC)
shows that even an irritant factor can make an impact on a bureaucracy
that's used to being unseen and unchallenged. The fact that someone from
the oppo saw fit to threaten one of the organisers (see elsewhere in
list) means that at least it pisses them off. Don't discount the
subjective altogether.
