When she appeared, she found PGR agents going through the contents of the package (which was no more than shirts and cultural posters); these agents proceeded to detain her, asserting that the contents of the package were "prohibited material," and they took her to the PGR office in Mexicali, where they detained her and interrogated her for 12 hours concerning the activities being carried out by the FZLN in that part of the country. It is worth noting that they made her sign several blank sheets of paper, and we hold the Attorney General of the Republic directly responsible for any legal trickery against Ms. Maria Eugenia Romero. She was finally liberated from her kidnapping thanks to the intervention by human rights organizations, but the materials were illegally kept by the PGR agents assigned to that city. There is no doubt, then, that Mr. Madrazo's agents violated several laws with this action: will they be promoted as a reward? 2) Last weekend, the Fourth Meeting of the National Coordinating Commission of the FZLN was held in the community of "Jose Ma. Morelos y Pavon," better known as "Canada Honda," in the State of Aguascalientes; one did not have to wait long for the paranoia of the state officials who, using some of the local press, characterized it as a "Subversive Reunion" and "Guerrilla Assembly" and accused the FZLN of "seeking to establish a guerrilla bastion in the middle of the country." 3) Lastly, last night, November 3, unidentified persons illegally entered our offices in Zapotecos 7 bis, colonia Obrera, DF, broke some of the furniture and left excrement. Simple break-in or one more warning? We publicly state one more time: the FZLN is a political organization which acts peacefully and openly throughout the country; as such, we demand that the harassment stop and that the governmnet, for once in its history, respect the laws and individual rights. In any case, the consultation is on.
