hello:

my name is jeffrey daniel miller (jeff.). i'm an anarchist-communist living
in morgantown, wv, u$a. i've joined this list in an effort to deepen my
knowledge and understanding of the autonomist movement.

i came to studying the autonomists thru an attempt to deepen my analysis of
capitalism as it is now, and how the class struggle has developed in
relation... and unfortunately anarchist theory pretty much came to a dead
stop about 40 years ago. and, let's face it, analysis of capitalism was
never anarchism's strong point.

i've always been a reader of marx, but have always had a general complaint
that marx and the marxists have an extremely weak analysis of power (which
is anarchism's strong point). i believe this is a big part of the reason we
have witnessed the many blunders of marxist inspired movements in the 20th c.

but lately i've been rather inspired by what i have read of folks who call
themselves marxists and who are developing an analysis of power in a
direction closely related to anarchism. but i have been disappointed to find
a lot of ideological dogmatism keeping these autonomist marxists from a
serious study of anarchism, and relying on the prejudices of marx & co. when
discussing anarchism. this is the same sort of dogmatism i experience within
the anarchist community when i suggest to folks that they deepen their
understanding of what is going on by reading folks like debord, negri, harry
cleaver, etc.

of course most of the autonomist lit i have read is from the 70s and 80s
(except for cleaver's post-marxist anarchism), and most of the autonomist
mags i have read are only as recent as 1996, so perhaps a lot of what i've
been saying here is olde-news.

at any rate...

i'm joining because i can see something new happening: with anarchists
deepening their understanding of capitalism and marxists deepening their
understanding of power, i think we are all moving closer together and feel
that something good could come of it.

soli!
jeff.
