I believe the Sandinistas came to power the same way,
not sure about this though. the contras of course
emerged later.

look at what just happened in the U.S., Bush and Gore
are members of the elite but they have some real
disagreements within the spectrum of ruling class
ideas. Gore has such faith in the system and the
electoral process that once the supreme court ruling
was handed down he probably would have backed out if a
nazi had been elected (some of bush's appointments
might not be far off from such consideration). there
has never been a coup de tat (sp) (although some
behind the scenes coup type activities have occurred)
in most if not all of the advanced capitalist states;
some elites wouldn't know what to do if a socialist
parliament were elected. i don't think this is the
path to revolution but i think it's plausible. i only
vote b/c i have to live with what politicians are
doing now; not because i have faith that a political
party will be able to organize the kind of society i'm
interested in.
