I just mean that any successful thing that starts in a union will end up exploding the boundaries that trade unions set up, ie breaking through trade barriers, involving non-waged members of the community etc and the union will either have to be transformed (an unlikley prospect most times) or transcended. Something like this going on, perhaps, in the South island of Nnew Zealand at the moment, where local communities are getting involved in a waterfront dispute, but are finding that they have to organise separate demonstrations if they want to take direct action, as the union leaders feel themselves constrained by a court injunction against effective picketing. Btw, I think we're thinking about different articles! I'll look it up.
