As a long-time Mumia supporter and defense activist, I can tell you that Workers' World is far from Mumia's politics. Not only that, outside New York they have minimal influence (and even there they burned a lot of bridges defending 'socialist' Serbia). Mumia himself, if one reads his books, is something of a humanist and would find himself at home in a lot of our discussions, although he tends towards MOVE's politics, which has severe limitations. However, a stirring critical engagement with Mumia has yet to be done and would be worth seeing. I think many people have been afraid to challenge Mumia's politics for fear of hurting the campaign to save his life. That would be a mistake, IMO, but then again, I have not risen to that challenge either. And I do not mean a critique in a hostile sense, but one which tries to understand exactly what makes Mumia powerfully attractive as well as limited.
